Nathan Trice grew up in Detroit with a mother who was diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic, and who lived as a homeless person for almost 9 years. Nathan is now a graduate of the Alvin Ailey Dance Company, a distinguished dancer, who leads his own company and performs all over the world. He has spent much of the last year developing a performance piece that explores his mother's suffering and his relationship with his mother.
His new piece, One's Trilogy, part of a series called Recognizing Women's Project, will premiere in Brooklyn, N. Y. in March. 2011.
"Recognizing Women Project" will premier One's Trilogy, an interpretive theatrical dance that loosely chronicles the lives of a son seeking understanding of a mother who suffered childhood traumatic abuse, paranoid schizophrenia, 8 to 9 years of homelessness, therapy and relapse. One's Trilogy aims to creatively increase understanding to the disorder commonly labeled as schizophrenia and psychosis, it's sociohistorical and family/ancestral constitutes, understand children learning how to be with a parent with disorders, and the assumptions associated with these disorders.
